What is Lip Flip?
A Lip Flip is a nonsurgical procedure created to give your lips a fuller appearance. Unlike Lip Fillers that use hyaluronic acid, this treatment uses a neuromodulator (i.e. BOTOX, Dysport, Xeomin) that gets injected into the corners of your mouth (oral commissures) and the edges of your lips (vermillion border). As the botulinum toxin works, the muscles around your upper lip relax, making it “flip” upwards a little bit, which makes it look slightly larger than normal. A lip flip is often considered to provide a more natural look than the increased volume that comes from lip fillers.
What are the Benefits of Lip Flip?
Our Houston Lip Flip patients have been able to enjoy the following benefits from their procedure:
- Boosts confidence and self-esteem
- Makes your lips look fuller without being “overfilled”
- Natural looking results
- Procedure is safe
- There’s less pain, bruising, and swelling when compared to other lip enhancements
Ideal Candidate
The best candidates for a Lip Flip in Houston are those who:
- Are in overall good physical health
- Currently do not have an oral infection (canker sores, cold sores, etc.)
- Maintain realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment
Other reasons you could be a good candidate include patients who:
- Are looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles
- Don’t want lip fillers or augmentation
- Want more coverage by your lips for your gums
While there haven’t been a lot of studies on the matter, if you are pregnant, we currently believe that you should wait until after having your child before you come in for a consultation.
First Step for a Lip Flip
The first step in getting a Houston Lip Flip is to contact Avante Plastic Surgery and schedule your consultation. When you come into our office, you will meet with Dr. Ahmad Ahmadi who will evaluate your lips, discuss your aesthetic goals, and answer any questions you may have. After talking about the neuromodulator options that would be best for your lip flip, Dr. Ahmadi will create your treatment plan. If you agree with the plan, he can administer your treatment immediately afterward, however, if you’d like to schedule for another day, our Patient Coordinator can help you with that.
Expectations
When you come in for your treatment, we will first offer you a local anesthetic, such as a numbing cream or nerve blocker, to make your experience more comfortable. Some patients find the treatment to be painless, so they will sometimes turn this down. Next, Dr. Ahmadi will use a thin needle to inject the neuromodulator into parts of your upper lip, the corners of your mouth, and the edges of your lips. The pinch of the needle has caused some patients’ eyes to water, but it’s a brief sensation.
The entire procedure will take about 10 to 20 minutes.
Lip Flip Recovery
After your treatment, we will keep you in our office for about 15 minutes to ensure you don’t experience any of the side effects (allergic reactions, dizziness, nausea, swelling, or substantial bleeding). You will be able to leave after we release you and you can do most of your normal activities, but keep in mind that you may experience some pain and swelling that should subside within the next 12 – 24 hours.
You’ll be able to eat and drink shortly after your procedure, but you will need to be careful and avoid messy foods that will make you want to wipe your face or lips for at least three days. During this time you will also want to avoid using drinking straws, smoking, or any other activity that will make you purse your lips because it may cause the neuromodulator to migrate. Since alcohol thins your blood, you will also need to abstain from drinking for the first 24 hours to prevent exacerbating bruising.
Cost of Lip Flip in Houston, TX
The cost of a Lip Flip in Houston is determined by multiple factors, including the neuromodulator that you choose and the amount that is needed to achieve your aesthetic goals. After meeting with Dr. Ahmadi for a consultation, he will create your treatment plan and with that information, our Patient Coordinator can give you a price breakdown for your treatment.

FAQ
Is lip flip painful?
Pain is relative, so every patient will have a different threshold for their tolerance. On average, most patients don’t find the procedure to be too painful thanks to the topical anesthetic and Dr. Ahmadi’s skill set, however, the target point for the needle injection is your mouth, which is more sensitive than other parts of your face. Usually, patients have no trouble but may tear up a bit from the sensation of the needle piercing that sensitive area.
How many appointments will I need?
You will only need one treatment to see the results from a Lip Flip, however, the treatment does not last as long as other lip augmentations, so you will need to return for “maintenance” if you wish to maintain your appearance.
How long until I see results?
You may be able to notice a positive change to your lips, but it will take about a week before your lips have their optimal look. If you have plans for a big event, we strongly recommend having this treatment about two weeks prior so that the toxin will be able to take its full effect and you will look your absolute best!
Can I combine lip flip with other procedures?
If you have other areas of your face or body that you would like Dr. Ahmadi to take a look at, please bring them up during your consultation. Many of our Houston area Lip Flip patients tend to combine their treatment with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as BOTOX or Dermal Fillers, but you may also be interested in our surgical options such as Rhinoplasty or Brow Lift. Dr. Ahmadi will listen to your aesthetic goals and help you decide what’s best for you.
