About Laser Resurfacing
Laser Resurfacing is a facial rejuvenation procedure that improves the appearance of a patient’s skin and treats minor facial flaws. Also called Ablative lasers, these treatments emit light in a uniform wavelength that gets absorbed by the lower dermis. The laser energy will be distributed in an even pattern to leave pockets of untreated skin, with each pulse of energy essentially vaporizing columns of tissue to encourage deep healing, collagen growth, and remodeling of tissue columns.
Skin resurfacing is often combined with other surgical rejuvenation procedures (i.e. Facelift, Necklift, Brow Lift) to deliver stunning results. These lasers can be used to treat everything from fine lines and wrinkles to acne scarring, and so much more in between.

First Step for Laser Resurfacing
The first step in getting Laser Resurfacing in Houston is to contact Avante Plastic Surgery and schedule a consultation. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with Dr. Ahmadi and you will be able to show him the skin disorder you would like to address and ask him any questions you may have. Dr. Ahmadi will evaluate the target area and analyze your facial anatomy, making note of his recommended strategies to address your unique needs. Please be open and honest when talking with Dr. Ahmadi. The information he gets will not only help him avoid unnecessary risks but also determine if this treatment is best for you. If Dr. Ahmadi deems you an appropriate candidate, he will create your treatment plan, and if you agree with his assessment, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your first session.
Expectations of Laser Resurfacing
When you come into Avante Plastic Surgery for your Laser Resurfacing treatment, we will first make you comfortable in our reclining chair. If you are having a more extensive treatment (like your entire face), we can offer to sedate you so your experience is more tolerable. Dr. Ahmadi will begin the treatment using a handheld device that emits a laser beam at a uniform wavelength while directing it at the targeted area. The laser will remove your epidermis (external layer of skin) and simultaneously heat the underlying layers (dermis) in an even pattern. The pulses of energy will induce deep healing and collagen production. The areas of untreated skin will help stimulate skin regeneration.
Laser Resurfacing Recovery
There is practically no downtime with Laser Skin Resurfacing, so you will be able to continue your daily routine immediately after your treatment. You will be advised to avoid wearing makeup for the first week post-treatment to not irritate your fresh, new skin. As your skin begins to heal, you should notice your skin improve with a reduction in fine lines, blotches, and wrinkles, eventually achieving glowing, healthy skin.
During the first week following your treatment, you may experience some skin dryness and peeling. You can expedite the healing process with procedure-specific moisturizer, but whatever you do, DO NOT pick at your skin. If you do experience any pain during your healing stages, you can easily treat it with over-the-counter pain medication or ice packs.
